I leave you the video of the presentation that is already available in wordpress.tv.
On many occasions we take a plugin to add functions to our WordPress. Little by little we are filling the manager of plugins that in some cases bring more features than we really need.
In addition, this forces us to have to make the updates of these plugins and make our WordPress can be slower, with the consequent penalty in our WPO that, on the other hand, has cost us to optimize.
I'm not saying that plugins are not unnecessary but, in some cases, we have alternatives that can help us to keep our Web more in shape, adding the features we need and no more.
In this article we are going to see five cases in which we can do without installing five plugins that provide functionalities that, if not all of them, then quite a few of them, we will have to apply to our website or that of our clients. These functionalities are adding the Google Tag Manager script, adding the Universal Analytics tracking code or the new Global Analytics tracking code, adding the Facebook pixel, adding conversion tracking or Google Adwords remarketing and, finally, implementing the procedure to comply with the famous "European Cookie Law".
And all this adding a few lines of code in our WordPress. Specifically the necessary to install the Google Tag Manager script. We will do it in a plugin of functions that will upload to the folder Mu-plugins of our installation of WordPress.
As you will have been able to see in the videos, in most cases the procedure is quite simple, and in others, such as the European Cookie Law, although it may seem complicated, it is not so much. and following step by step the creation of labels, triggers and variables, you will have it implemented in a matter of minutes. And with the advantage that you can then take this implementation to another website and, with a few modifications, leave it configured in no time at all.
I encourage you to think of other cases you can replace lines of code by injecting a tag from Google Tag Manager. To me, for example, while I prepared the videos, it occurred to me to try to mount the script that redirects from the form of Contact Form 7 to the page of thanks splicing as a label, instead of adding the script directly to the page. The possibilities are endless.
In the next few days, I will add the codes and scripts that I used in this presentation so that you have available and you can do your tests. Meanwhile, I invite you to, if you have not already done, register your property in Google Tag Manager and go research.
